LOL; my grandmother promised me a horse before she died and she died in 1966; I'm still waiting for that horse too :-)
I'm 57 and live in a house on the water; 5-6 years ago my husband and I looked at houses on the water, even a couple in this community and there was no way we could ever afford to have one, it just wasn't going to happen. I should have known better, it isn't the first time (including getting husband, home and family) that I have gotten something I totally didn't think was going to happen.
I like to daydream because it feels good, it's like one's own personal story for when I'm bored or stressed. Having something that I'm working toward helps keeps pulling me forward.
Why don't you start by buying yourself a lite-brite now? That is one of the activities I really like; going into Toys R Us and looking around and realizing that if I wanted to, I could buy whatever I desired in there (but, don't particularly want anything anymore; although, Target. . . LOL :-) Spend the $15 on yourself as a commitment:

I have a series (3) of jars that are different sizes that belonged to my "mentor" a woman I loved who has since died. I have no use for them but I keep them anyway. Well, I decided to make them into "wish" jars and I have put seed packets in them and 50 cent pieces from the racetrack, etc. to see what "grows" LOL. You could have your lite brite and look at it to remind you of what you wanted; maybe there's a "model" houseboat you can build? I have a tiny wooden rowboat, reminded me of the boat I wanted to build as a project several years ago.
