I have a friend that had a wound problem like that. She was able to get visiting nurse services to have the wound packed/wrapped. She also had some sort of machine to help clean out the wound. I think she was on Medicare. Obviously, I have no idea about your mother's insurance situation and what is covered, but it might be worth it to ask.
