I find it sort of surprising, shocking, even how open most of the US is despite the surge in cases. My adopted country of about 19 million is having normally around 1,100 new cases a day, although yesterday was a bit higher. Still, many places here are under a lot of restrictions. My area has about 31 active cases per 100,000 by the last report and we are still in phase 2 (1 is very strict lockdown). We still have curfew, gatherings are limited and you can only go out once during the weekend with a special permit. We have more freedom during the week. We also have national and local mask requirements. Some hotspots are under strict quarantine where you can only get 2 permits to go out a week and only essential businesses are open.
