well, this is my first post and i am on here to see about getting some help for my brother, 50 yo, who lives in another state, and my mother, 68 yo, who is trying to help him. he has had bipolar and major depressive behavior most of his life, been in/out of legal trouble/jail, currently has a house with "crazy" neighbors who have also been in/out of legal trouble who have a restraining order against my brother. they called him in to the police who took him to jail for 2 weeks or so, during which, they did not give him his sleeping pills which apparently has thrown him "out of balance". he repeatedly called my mother, who was in florida for the winter, and begged her to come home early to help him out of jail. she did and now he is staying with her and has spiraled into a crisis during which he berates and verbally abuses her all day, with delusional statements, blaming her for his every problem from birth to age 50. oddly, she said he had to call the insurance company and spoke very nicely to them, then got off the phone and went right back to his verbal abuse. i have suggested she ask/tell him to leave if he is going to act that way, but she is afraid he will commit suicide if he leaves that way. to my knowledge, he has not said he would commit suicide during this episode, but i know he has threatened in the past, along with, in the past (probably 2 years ago) threatened to kill my mom and dad. so...what to do? oh, he has seen VA mental health in recent past, and mom is not sure if he is taking meds, he may be "weaning" off, because he is now saying he is fine, everyone else is crazy. thanks for any comments.
