Interesting. When I was psychotic, my hallucinations were of real objects, but had what I call auras or fuzzy wavy boundaries that made the object stand out and impossible to ignore. It went along with the entire theme of my disordered thinking. E.g., Photos of eyes in magazines looked back at me and can see inside me. It was penetrating and terrifying.
One time my psychiatrist and I discussed this. She told me this was common.
I never had an actual hallucination of an object that wasn't in front of me when I was psychotic. The only time I experienced this was in a state of delirium that was due to anticholingeric syndrome.
