Crying in front of people is usually embarrassing. Sometimes, like at a funeral, it’s expected and others are crying, too. Those times don’t normally bring embarrassment. It’s times when you have broken down and attention is brought to you for it, then it’s embarrassing.

I developed severe crying over a relationship issue, which is what made me seek therapy. I was finally put on an anti anxiety med, which instantly, magically stopped the heavy flow of tears. It felt like I was still just as upset and a few tears would come, but joyfully for me, no more severe, debilitating, embarrassing crying.

I’m sorry you cried yourself to sleep often as a kid. Address the issues that are upsetting you and causing you to cry. Try to get to the root of it and stop whatever it is, then you will not cry over the current cause which is bothering you. (I know it’s easier said than done)
