While I do think that someone with BPD could very well threaten such a thing, there would need to be other criteria met for the dx.

In this article he states :"There is no evidence that borderline personality disorder is more common in women." (Under the statistics heading).
In the first article, he states it being "more prevalent in females". Disconnect there. But I believe that this statement might be based more on dx's than actual prevalence. It got that rep (if I had to guess, I'd say it proceeded from the old "hysterical" female b.s. diagnosed in days of yore) and was dx'd that way accordingly. But guys can just as well have it, no doubt about that.
