I should clarify that we just live in a suburban area with a particularly high cost of living, partly due to having one of the top-rated school systems in the country. H got our townhouse at a bargain price (before we were together) by a for-sale-by-owner who just wanted to get rid of it. Then the market crash happened, and we were underwater for a stretch on the house (owed more than it was worth). We're in a considerably less-good area of the county (for example, a large portion of the students at D's school are on free or reduced lunch, and she's at a Title I school that gets extra funding because of the population). But most of the therapists are clustered in the pricier areas of the county (and I know that Dr. T lives in a single-family home in one of the nicest areas, but he doesn't necessarily know that I know that...).
