This is fascinating, and really well written. Thank you for sharing! I always thought that ECT was inhumane, but had that concept challenged by a college friend who had positive results from the treatment. I've learned a lot about trauma responses over the years. I've read that all other animals natural have a natural cathartic shaking response to suffering trauma. They don't shut down their natural responses, but we do.
I wonder if the induced convulsions replicate a natural healing response. Just a thought.
