Our first dog was a Pomeranian, I was about eight. I was excited to have a dog but didn’t bond with him, he was sort of stupid. Then when I was nine a friend down the road had a litter of puppies and I fell in love. They were mutts, half old English shepherd and half English setter. She looked just like a bearded collie. I talked my parents into letting me get her. She was the smartest dog. I trained her to do tons of tricks. No dog could ever live up to her. I absolutely believe that mutts make the best breed. But my second dog that I adopted after college was a cocker spaniel. He was a good dog not super great but a good dog. I lived in an apartment so needed a smaller dog. I’ve volunteered for years at shelters and still think mutts make the best dogs even though I’ve only had cats since.
