I can't necessarily recommend any of this, but I recall talking about baseball with the big boss I met with during the third interview. The interview was in his office and he had baseball pennant flags there. Believe me that his eyes lit up when I mentioned the sport....Um, casually. Perhaps for some people bringing up hobbies might be good. I wouldn't voluntarily bring up anything heavy. I also recall briefly talking about his hometown (Hoboken). I had been there and brought up that I knew Frank Sinatra was from there.

Honestly, I think it may have been that big boss (and not my then soon to be direct boss) that got me the job. Sad to say, but these types of interest/social links can make a difference.
