I have also heard that with some of the new COVID variants, it takes less virus exposure to be affected; however, since she was careful, she might be less sick. I have seen doctors explain that the amount of virus we are exposed to is one factor in how sick we become.
Yes, the lockdowns (in my case, I know I should self isolate) coupled with winter weather are not very cheering.
