Oh I don't think it's unusual at all. I mean, I wouldn't mind having one. It just tends to be funny to me when I say something to T like, "Oh, it's not like I'm getting x for that price," then he says later how theirs was that price. I think it also underlines how, while we're doing OK, he's clearly in a higher income bracket. And makes me feel less bad about paying a somewhat reduced rate.
ETA: Though I suppose it doesn't necessarily say anything about his income so much as about his priorities. Like some people might prioritize having a nice mattress but then opt to spend less in other areas because good sleep is more important to them. Like I have a fairly expensive Macbook Pro (I can deduct a considerable portion of it from my taxes because I'm self-employed and use my computer for my work), while Dr. T has an older Microsoft Surface with a considerably smaller screen. But I like having a bigger screen and using Apple's operating system over Windows.
