White lies, to me, are meant to be harmless - i.e. not telling/bending the truth a bit won’t harm the other person or your relationship. It’s not something that person needs to know, or would cause them to make a significantly different choice about something in their life if they did know.
Nobody needs to know 100% of another person’s business, in any case. There are some things it’s wrong to hide, of course, but if everyone was totally honest all the time, as MrPaul said, society would very likely collapse.
