its just a fancy way of saying basic behavior modification.
you pic a problem that you want to change.
set a goal. and how you plan to measure your changes
then you work to accomplish those goals.
example
behavior to change - smoking
goals
goal 1. on day 1 I will keep track of how many cigarettes I smoke
goal 2 on every day I will decrease the number of cigarettes I smoke by one from the day before.
goal 3 at the end of a week I will again tally how many cigarettes I am smoking and decide if I want to make new goals.
reward system - if I have been able to decrease by one cigarette each day for a week I will treat myself to renting a movie.
My ABA plan will begin tomorrow.
thats all ABA is.. selecting a negative behavior you want to change. making reachable goals to change that behavior, then attempt to accomplish those goals. and reward yourself when you have followed through with accomplishing your goals.
always remember ABA is for changing behaviors by setting ........reachable..... goals. never set goals that you dont think you will be able to reach for that defeats the purpose of this type of therapy.
though it is used for autism, its also used all kinds of problems, habits and so forth. its not specific to .......just .....autism. and not specific to just one type of problem, anyone can do it for any problem that they may have.
