When I lived in the twin cities I sold my car and used public transportation. Parking was a huge hassle and expensive. One place I lived had three options, you could take your chances with street parking, pay $100 extra a month and park in a unpaved lot or pay $$$$ for a covered paved lot. It was cheaper to buy an unlimited pass, I could get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time. Back then the busses went right up to the malls and stores so it was better than driving. The busses all went to the museum s and historic sites and ran almost 24 hours a day. So you could go out to plays and theaters at night and get home. I usually took the bus to the grocery and then caved it home. There was no Uber back then. But when I moved to Austin Texas I had no choice but to save up for a car. Public transportation was lousy. It took hours to get any where and you had to wait for buses in dark dangerous places. Plus they stopped running by 9-10.
