I am not an authority nor do I have any medical qualifications; I've just been to therapy and clinics and sites. I personally take an anti-convulsant, clonazepam. I also take lamotrigine another drug for epilepsy. I know they are used for calming( (muscles, anxiety). I was initially prescribed them for epileptic twitches at night. I'm bi-polar and I assume it helps with mania. I was on them before I was bi-polar. I was on epival which gave me mania and ... bad symptoms. It, specifically as a mood stabilizer, isn't good for people with bi-polar. I'm currently having my medication changed. I was told "no"lithium that is for major depression. My sister took lithium; mental health issues are in my family. I can't handle anti-psychotics, at all. This is only what I know about me and medication.
