@Arpheus. I feel so identified reading your post. I have been writing about this on the Coronavirus thread in the Anxiety, Panic and Phobias board. I am from the US but am a long term expat living in Chile. We have the same issue here. We are being congratulated for vaccinating at a high rate, but over 90% is Sinovac. Pfizer just sends us crumbs because most is going to the US. I'm not sure if you are using Sinovac or Sinopharm there. Less than 10% is Pfizer. I have been holding off on getting vaccinated because there are no credible Phase III studies and I don't like the idea of our government making us a guinea pig for a Chinese company, considering the history of contaminated medications, baby food, etc. It is causing major anxiety for me. When the recent admission by the Chinse that their vaccines are low in efficacy came out, there were comments on some articles from expats in places like Mexico that were facing the same dilemma and stress.

The numbers here get worse and worse the more we vaccinate. I read a comparison of the US, UK, Israel after 56 days of vaccination when we were just passing that threshold and they all had fewer deaths and ICU admissions, while we were seeing increases. 69 days and it’s the same trend. Something doesn’t add up for me.

It’s causing conflict with my husband. He thinks he might be sent back to the office soon (I kind of doubt that considering how bad things are). He’s worried that he will bring it home and get me sick and is trying to convince me to get it because “peor es nada” as they say. I haven’t been able to bring myself to do it. I don’t want that vaccine. Meanwhile I read that there is a vaccine oversupply forming in areas of the US because many people want to be vaccinated due to the conspiracy theory that it’s going to put a chip in them or change their DNA. I would love to have access to one of the vaccines they don’t want. I am not anti-vaccination by any means. I just want one with serious studies showing that it works.

Sadly, countries like ours, if they can’t get better vaccines, are going to be stuck in this for so much longer than countries using the more advanced ones. I don’t regret coming here. I’ve had a good life most of the time. However, between the 2019 protests and now no end in sight for Covid here, it’s been a hard year and a half and counting.

Huge hug to you. I’m sorry we are both dealing with this. By the way, one of my best friends is Colombian and my husband and I have visited twice. It’s a beautiful country. I really enjoyed my time there.
