Another reason I listen and put my smartphone to the side is so the light is not shining on my face; I have seen in many places people saying that staring at blue lights (electronic lights), effects the quality of our sleep. I use my smart phone via wifi and fortunately, it has to be reconnected every once and a while (my bedroom is the farthest away from the router) so my phone shuts off if I don't reconnect it which is good so that it's not running all night long...
