The mask mandates didn't help in France. Covid cases still exploded. Masks have been around for over 100 years and in 2019 WHO said about face masks that “there is no evidence that this is effective in reducing transmission…”

If face masks really worked they would have saved tens of millions of people in the 1918 pandemic.
