I don't mean to bring anyone down, but I just hacked up my parsley plant. It was 2-1/2-3 feet tall and 2 feet in diameter! Luckily my herbs are in "flues" so they won't spread out, only up (so it might be might fault it grew so large?) It was shading 2 poor lettuces so they couldn't get any sun and its main stem was an inch in circumference; a regular tree would have been proud! But I feel so bad, like one shouldn't hurt parsley, it does such a noble, throw-away job on plates in restaurants everywhere? I always eat mine when we dine out; it's full of Vitamin C. But I never think to use it here, right out my front door, maybe 5-10 steps from my kitchen?
I have to confess I pulled up some oregano too, by the root, it wouldn't cut quietly like the parsley did. But both of them were taking up room with their exuberant arm waving, right where I want to plant my tomatoes this week. I think the lettuce that was under the parsley was traumatized, I may have to eat it, put it out of its misery.
