They seem rather contradictory, in the sense that someone with NPD usually wants to dominate others and someone with BPD is more concerned with being loved and cared for.

I don't think this is so odd. Looking just a little bit deeper, both fits wonderfully together. Dominating behavior is a symptom on the surface, not the essence of NPD - so far my observation and conviction.

It is the way it is. I can't change that. But there might be a way to change how I react.
(Meanwhile I found out, there are such ways.)
