I'm not saying that people don't look at the outside package... but charisma and chemistry have such a strong influence on the outside package that the reaction to a photograph is going to be MUCH different than if you smile and shake hands with someone.

Look at Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett. He's pretty strange looking, but he definitely has the charisma going for him. And you can't say she was attracted to him because he's rich!
