Can i ask you how are things with him aside from this episode? If it was just this isolated occasion perhaps it is possible to let it pass. i am not sure if this is appropriate but maybe you may even let him know that his words hurt you? i am not sure if this is a good suggestion as it also heavily depends on the level of confidence and trust.
