That's generally true of the majority of practioners, however there are some psychologists who have completed specialized training and field work who have earned the right to prescribe psychotropic medications in states which allow this, LA and NM are two. There may be more now; I haven't been following it as closely as I once did. A few armed service psychologists also can legally prescribe. This is where the pilot programs for training psychologists to prescribe began. Still, the overwhelming majority of psychologists cannot legally prescribe meds. Just to clarify. lol Clearer as mud?
