I just read CALL OF THE WILD by Jack London. Published in 1903, he refers to the hero dog, Buck, as a cross between a St. Bernard and a "Scotch shepherd." There is no such formal name for a dog these days as Scotch Shepherd, but in my research on the web, it seems the Collie dog was/is also considered a Scottish shepherd dog. I'm thinking "Buck" was cross between a St. Bernard and a Collie. Have any of you read the book and thought of what kind of dog Buck was?
