With a therapist it usually is not personal. With me it can be very personal so I look at what I have done or said that may have created the conditions I find myself in. I am compassionate and accepting and do not blame myself, but instead try to see how I can act differently in the future to have a different result.

One approach that has worked successfully for me is to leave an apology for anything I might have done that was offensive or inappropriate and to ask what can be done to mend the therapist client relationship and if things are too difficult, please let me know what I could do differently in the next therapy situation I find myself in.

If I try to blame the therapist or threaten them, they go into defensive mode and I may never hear from them again.
