You aren't describing mood swings which is essential to bipolar. We can't diagnose on here but you may want to look into personality disorders (especially since you say he self-diagnoses as a sociopath). there's alsot he relationship forum that might help you.
Unless there is more that you aren't describing I don't think bipolar is the problem.
