It looks like you're in the United States. I'd recommend using the Psychology Today search (click on "Find a Therapist"). You can look by city and state, also specialty, gender, whether they take insurance (but contact them to confirm), have a sliding scale, etc. And you can generally see a photo, and brief description. It's where I found my last two therapists, plus a couple that I tried out while considering changing. I'd suggest then looking on their professional websites if there's a link to one, as you can generally get more information there.

What I've done is typed up a brief email listing what I'm looking for/why I want a therapist (like brief description of symptoms) and sent it to a few therapists who looked promising. Many will offer a free 15-minute phone or Zoom consult (some may offer in person) to see if they're a good potential fit.
