I had gastric bypass in 2007 and am experiencing the same issues. I was under young still when I had it and mostly I’ve bounced back. I was over 300lbs. I lost 127 lbs and (I say proudly and not to brag) but I’ve kept the weight off for 14 years. I have had two plastic surgery consults. One when I was roughly a year or so out from my surgery. At that point we had decent insurance through my husbands union and the insurance company said I had to keep my weight stable for a year before it would be considered. My husband left the Union and took a job at an Ivy League university and we pay for the best ppo they offer. I had a consult about a year ago and the doc is nice and very accomplished. Some insurance companies will cover a panulectomy (sp) which is basically slicing off the largest portion of problem skin and just sewing it together. No sculpting or anything. He told me that is usually reserved for severely obese people who literally have issues walking etc. However his office didn’t technically check to see if anything was covered. So he told me his plan and he said “I’ve never had a patient get a pani covered and never had a patient get abdominalplasty covered. His fees? (17k!) But I know people have been successful getting this covered even when most people say it never happens. I need to look into it more.
