Mulled wine is a good tipple this time of year. Be careful though, it can be dangerous if you make your own and include some brandy/cognac. If you don't drink then a non-alcoholic punch. Should be some recipes online.
Platters are a good idea. If you like food that you wouldn't normally eat everyday, then splash out. Know it's not everyone's choice but I like prawns, smoked salmon, olive bread, antipasti type meats. Then buy an indulgent dessert instead of/in addition to cake (or cupcakes if you don't want it still around a week later lol!)
Not sure on games. Trivial Pursuit keeps brain going! Those logo games are also popular. Amazing how they jog the memory....
