That sounds awful, Sapien. I'm sorry you have such trouble with a medication that is supposed to help you bear another medication. I, too, had troubles with Cogentin, but in my case it was constipation. It was so bad that I had to stop it. As I also had severe akathisia at the time, my psychiatrist resorted to using what was a second benzo to help relieve my akathisia. That was less than ideal! For one thing, it sucked to be dependent on benzos. For another, the benzo's effects at curbing the akathisia wore off by the mornings, so I had to suffer every morning while waiting for the morning dose to kick in.

I had already been taking a beta blocker (propranolol) that helped my tachycardia, but not the akathisia. The other benzo (Klonopin) did nothing.

I haven't had akathisia for years now, but only because my antipsychotic is Seroquel. Luckily Seroquel has never given me akathisia or hyperprolactinemia.

Psych Medications:
* Tegretol XR (carbamazepine ER) 800 mg
* Lamictal (lamotrigine) 150 mg
* Seroquel XR (quetiapine ER) 500 mg

I also take meds for blood pressure, cholesterol, and tachycardia.
