I know when my truck was broken into in Albuquerque on my drive back to California last Thanksgiving.....everything I had that was stolen was covered under my homeowners policy. I had to get all the receipt information on the things.....sadly, my flute was in the bag that was stolen & that was worth $6000.....I had a rider on my homeower policy that only covered 1/2 because I hadn't had the appraisal updated since 1985....that was a huge loss.....but the jewelry & the rest of the things that were in the bag that was stolen was also covered with a $1000 deductible....I was surprised how everything added up as I thought through & added up all the receipts....way over $2000 on the rest of the stuff...of course, most of that value was jewelry....but lol.....then evey covered the 5 lbs of dogfood that was stolen.
The window on my truck was covered immediately....they came out to the motel & fixed it in the lot as I was on a trip & couldn't leave my window in that condition.
The worst part was the ID information they stole from me....that came from the motel clerk that checked me in.....I went through a horrible time with that as I was on the road & was getting calls about the credit usage....so I had to stop everything & close every account possible.....then as soon as I got back to California, I took care of filing everything with the credit bureaus.
It is such a horrible feeling when your property is attacked like that....you privacy it completely invaded & trust destroyed.
It impacts your life beyond what anyone can imagine....
I am sorry your son went through this,
Debbie
