I got the 2nd foal born on the farm too. Thursday night just after arriving at the barn & before the snow started. This one was a colt & so adorable. The mare was a maiden so this was her first foal. Was a more difficult birth for the team because the foal was upside down to start. They got him turned & out with a small tear complication on the mare. Oh my gosh, he had the cutest floppy ears. Tonight is my night back for this week. Will see how many of the 4 overdue were born while I was off since Friday. Checked in Fri afternoon & none but betting at least 2 more by tonight.
Ok, I don't feel so bad almost missing the first mare & just barely getting her into the foaling stall before she delivered after hearing her delivery from last year....lol....her water broke when she was out in the field & she was running around while the foal was coming. Horses definitely do their thing but have found they mostly like to give birth when everything quiets down at night. Such a thrill so see these foals & help them nurse the colostrum their 1st hours after birth
