Well, I got about 5 hours of sleep, so that's progress. 6 is the magic number for me, with which I feel like a fully functioning human being.

I almost signed onto this site when I was still awake 2 hours after going to bed, but instead I used a tactic that sometimes works for me on these slow-to-fall-asleep nights. I told myself, "Okay, if that's the way you want it... I'll give you one more chance to fall asleep and if you won't, you'll have to get out of this nice warm, soft bed and do things. I give you 10 minutes." And I snuggle down and really enjoy the warmth and the softness, and sometimes the next thing I know it's many hours later and I'm fairly well rested.

A couple of years ago I tried an online sleep thingy called ShutI, I think, and it helped a little but not enough. The best part of it was deliberately restricting sleeping hours severely for a short time, which helped for a little while. I'm going to keep looking. I already know about and extensively tried: keeping the bedroom cool and quiet and dark, not looking at lit-up screens for an hour before bedtime, getting lots of exercise, no caffeine after 3 pm.... they said that if you can't fall asleep soon you should get out of bed until you feel drowsy, but I hatehatehate that, and I never fell asleep afterwards. But apparently some people do.
