That shows you are kind and concerned about others. Certainly not a scum bag. Don't listen to those thoughts. I'm glad you are snuggling with kitty cat. I have two kitties myself, Amelia Jayne a rescued snowshoe mix and Helen Rose a rescued Tuxedo. Amelia is really skittish and likes to be by herself but if she is in her bed she likes being petted. Helen is more of the ham and likes to be petted but sometimes she will sit with me. Sometimes she likes to sit in her perch on top of her castle which she is the queen of. They are both cutie pies.
