I haven't really had any significant physical (non mental) illnesses in my life, so that part was never an issue for me. Knock on wood. What I did encounter is doctors (not pdocs) judging how many psych meds I was prescribed and/or why I was still sick on all of them. Truth is, sometimes the numbers were staggeringly high, and on a few occasions I was on one or two that did little more than cause side effects, however other times I needed them all. Also, it's really not another doctor's place to judge psych med prescribing, if they aren't a psychiatrist. I think doctors often judge other doctors.

At least with diabetes you can have a test that says either way, but that's terrible if other physical stuff is discounted as being "in one's head". Nammu was right to strongly advocate for herself and push further investigation. We have to be tough at doing that. Unfortunately, I think many people, including some pdocs/tdocs, look at mentally ill as weak, sometimes unintelligent, (dang, I can't think of the right word) and/or sometimes even childish. Some mentally ill people reinforce such notions. It hurts us all. I had to prove myself right on a few things to my old psychiatrist. Even to my husband. Yet, sometimes I've also been wrong.
