Hi Fuzzy. I could say the exact same thing as Crazy Hitch. Meds are the main, laying low the backup. One could look at "laying low" as a timeout or just a way of not allowing the anger to get oneself in trouble in the outside world. We all sometimes need private time to calm down or privately let off steam.
Other tools/methods might be challenging cognitive distortions and mood de-escalation. For the former, we have to ask ourselves questions like "On a scale of 1 to 10, how much anger was/is really worth it given the circumstances?" Or, "Is the pain of this anger really sufficiently fair to others and/or even myself?" As for mood de-escalation, suggestions were mentioned by others above. Shower, hugging pillow, the challenging of cognitive distortions, etc.
