There are 26 amendments to the constitution
Nowhere in the document itself is there lanquage stating "seperation of church and state" the establishment clause simply states the government cannot "establish" (sponsor or collect taxes on behalf of) a paticular religion.
The church and state issue is among the most misunderstood aspects of our constitution
The other 2 most important amendments, 9 and 10 are also misundertood, based on those amendments "The New Deal" and "The Great Society" and for that matter the greatest fraud ever perpetuated on society: Social Security ( FDR led us very well in our foreign issues, but his domestic policies were a disaster) should have never come to pass.
Back in 1994 a law was proposed that required any member of congress proposing spending legislation to cite the specific article in the constitution that authorized the expense on the part of the federal government, it never passed.
I commend you greatly for being an informed citizen! There need to be a whole hell of lot more out there paying attention to how our system works. I believe if that were the case we would elect far better leaders.
