I second listening to Jon Kabat-Zinn (or reading one of his books such as "Coming to Our Senses" or "Wherever You Go, There You Are.") I know it's not directly related to psychiatric medication, and I'm sure there are medical options out there for treating lack of focus and things like that (I'm also sure that a lot of people need that kind of medical support as well, myself included), but meditation and mindfulness (in addition to my psychiatric medication) has helped me a lot in my recovery and in life in general. Maybe it would be worth checking out a Jon Kabat-Zinn book at the library and seeing what mindfulness is all about? Just a suggestion - obviously you don't have to take it if you don't want to.
Oh and additionally, I know basically nothing about stimulants so I can't really help you there.
All I know about stimulants is they have side effects of their own, and that they can actually cause psychosis in some people (that's what my pdoc told me at least, one time).
