Jeoparady, welcome to the bipolar forum! You are totally right in being upset about the akathisia and your doctor's unwillingness to help you combat it. If your psychiatrist will truly do nothing, I suggest you start looking for a new one. You should NOT have to suffer the torture, and I know from personal experience that akathisia can get to that point. You are correct that you deserve to either be prescribed some medication to ease the suffering, or be offered another possible solution. Another solution might be a new medication to replace the one that gives you the akathisia. I, personally, see that as a good option if akathisia controlling medications are not tolerable or reasonable.
I've experienced akathisia from three different medications I took in the past. They included Zyprexa (olanzapine), Abilify (aripiprazole), and Geodon (ziprasidone). I know these meds don't give everyone akathisia, though. The Zyprexa was stopped quickly, partly because of the akathisia, but also massive weight gain. The Abilify was stopped mostly because it didn't control my mania well enough. Geodon was stopped mostly because it gave me the worst akathisia I've ever experienced. Plus, it started to poop out a bit. In the end, I was glad to be transitioned off of Geodon, but as I was, I had another antipsychotic's dose increased. I wasn't just taken off of medications. That would have been a dangerous and stupid move.
