I've been thinking that when my husband and I finally move to a more permanent home that I'd like a cat. I always loved them, but haven't had a kitty since my youth. My cat back then had a "half of a mustache" and was black and white like Mustachio. His name was "T.C." for Top Cat. He was already named when we adopted him at 2 years old. I think I more often just called him "Honey Muffin". My husband has always been strictly a bird guy. I also love birds and fell in love with my past parrots, but I've always thought cats were a better match for me.
I remember the very first cat I had as a little child (I was maybe 6 years old). He was an adorable kitten that my mother let me pick out. When we got home, Mom said I could name him because he was mine. For some reason I thought to look for names in the bible. I opened it up and the name "Solomon" appeared, so that's what I named him. A few days later, when I returned home from school, I looked for my little kitten, but he was nowhere to be found. When I saw my mother, she took me aside to tell the bad news. Apparently my dad grew furious about Solomon peeing on the rug, so told my mom to take him back. I remember Mom crying as she told me, and she apologized and assured me Solomon had a new home. I cried, a lot. I've always remembered Solomon, and have vowed that if I get another male cat that the new cat will be "Solomon" again, in honor of my first kitty. I had T.C. after Solomon, but as T.C. was already named, the name waits for the next cat.

Oh, how terrible for you to lose your kitten like that.
I have a half-mustache guy, Jack. He's the largest cat I've ever seen, no kidding. Sleek black with some white, tall and LONG! What's amusing is that here's this enormous cat and he's extremely timid. He lives in my walk-in closet (I call it "Jack's apartment).
I also have a Solomon! He had the name when I adopted him and it's just right for him, so I kept it. He's my "old guy." Sweet, gentle cat...except when he is naughty and chases poor little plump Sadie, lol.
