They sure do! Sleep is so, so, so important. When I'm sleep deprived not only does my mental state start to collapse, but I have physical issues...stomach upset, aching all over my body, painful eyes. Frankly, I find that psychiatrists underestimate a lot of things. It seems their primary goal is how well we get along with other people, how well we "function in society."
