From personal experience, the symptoms I had during thev13 years that were so bad in my life were totally accurate (major depression & anxiety) it was at the time, bad enough to cause me to end up on disability. At the time, none of the mental health people (pdocs & T's) could put their finger on why I was so bad. 13 years later I left that bad situation completely (2100 miles away). That was when the situational cause of my mental health condition became clear cause I started to get better as soon as I left & with awesome therapy I learned the skills I didn't have so that I could not allow situations to effect me in the way it had (& the recovery from the PTSD came easier also)
For me, the diagnosis was accurate at the time.....but it was not a diagnosis that had to be stuck on me when I did recover after leaving the situation.
