Hi @LiteraryLark - I hear you saying that you enjoy visits to your parents and the comfort of staying at their house. It is easier if they live further away then I can say it is a lot to drive both ways in a day.

I guess if you are happy visiting with them and they do not see it as an imposition, then why not. There are some people in their 30's still living at home. It is not easy now with rising rents and housing costs to live independently. Kudos to you for having your own place.

Relationships with parents are very complex in my opinion. It was very difficult to give up some of the goals of getting parental acceptance, especially when parents wanted it all their way. But there comes a time in life when those things have faded in importance. To me what is important is to start building an identity of my own, finding purpose and meaning in my life. To me this is a life-long task, so I am glad I started working on that early in life.

Accepting ourselves for who we are to me seems to be the first step. Giving up changing their mind. It seems to be already made up. That is progress just to get that far. @CANDC
