I just saw this, today...

Someone wise once told me that, in general, family members are the LAST people one should turn to for aid and comfort and understanding. That's because unless you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that these people WILL support you, NO MATTER WHAT, you've got a high chance of your hopes being dashed further.

That has been my experience; my "family " now consists of other people who I know I can trust not to hurt me, absolutely.
