I'm so sorry to hear about this ordeal. People can be so cruel. It can hurt so bad not having certain people (especially those in whom we've invested) reach out. This has happened to me, too.

In my case, I'm trying to find people where the level of investment is reciprocal. I also have a cat and she loves me to bits and I love her... I'm also researching "codependency" on the net to find strategies to overcome it...
