I had to renew my license and ended up spending 2 hours and 10 minutes in a small, hot, very noisy DMV office going through all the BS. I was already in a hypomanic state when I walked into the building. About an hour in I was escalating into mania. I was yelling out loud, praying out loud. I knew it, but I could not stop myself. I was afraid the cops there were going to kick me out or arrest me to the hospital.
Anyway, that was how I ended up on lithium (which I stopped taking when I got sick).
The DMV experience has, like so many aspects of this country, become intolerable.
