There are some electric cars (i.e. a Tesla) that are much more expensive than gas fueled cars, but not all are. Tesla is like the "Porche of electric cars", in a sense. Some hybrid versions of cars are only a bit more expensive than their solely gas fueled equivalents (i.e. Subaru Crosstrek regular vs. Subaru Crosstrek hybrid), but only a couple thousand dollars or so. That difference is easily recouped from reduced gas expenditures. Also, in some places, there are even government rebates on buying electric or hybrid that even out the costs. These exist when the government is controlled by politicians that make it a priority to fight global warming and polution and encourage their residents to do so. Note, too, that there are some gas fueled cars that are more expensive than electric or hybrid. And for truck and SUV lovers, there are hybrid and gas options and there will be more.
I own a hybrid car and it saves my husband and I lots of money on gas. It is also clean running with zero oil or gas to burn. It charges quickly requiring little extra electric than any major appliance. In the future, the batteries will get even better and smaller, just as other electric things do. Gas fueled cars will become a thing of the past in most of our lifetimes. They'll go further and further on charges, there will be easier charging, and they'll be cheaper in relation to affordability. Such advantages will eventually fight the powers that try to stop it. Innovation and progress always eventually does.

Yes, Soupe, you are correct as far as my own knowledge of the situation goes. And I truly do trust Governor Newsom to do what he knows is best for the environment. This state is in serious, no-joking trouble due to climate change. Action must be taken ASAP.
