Krakow Poland. It's a beautiful city with a lot of good and bad history. It has thousand year old cathedrals, old town squares and the unfortunate distinction of being next door to Auschwitz. It's... quite a story Krakow has.

But what I remember most is a memory. A moment of belonging to the city I was visiting. Nowhere to go, nothing to do. Just... a peaceful moment.

Picture if you will: A medieval town square with statues and churches and people going about their day and a equal amount just hanging out. Vendors and street performers abound, with one of them making bubbles. I'm sitting by the statues finishing a beer and freshly cooked pretzel (the smell of the dough wafts in the air) when a toddler, having found the bubble guy, screams at the top of his lungs, "BUBBLES! BUBBLES!" and takes off in a sprint across the plaza with his poor mother trailing behind.

While we were all watching the sweet scene, I felt fur against my arm. A young woman's dog found my pretzel VERY interesting! She pulled the dog away and apologized. I said it was OK and asked if I could offer the dog a piece. She had no objections, the dog certainly had no objections and even licked my cheek in appreciation.

It was a nice moment and I felt at home then. More so than my actual home. Which is quite sad.

Have you ever had a similar moment? One of feeling at home in a distant place?
